Add to your to do list from Claude
Updated
You already talk to Claude about your week, your plans and the things you keep forgetting. The missing piece is getting those things onto a list you actually look at. Once Claude is connected, you can add to your to do list from Claude in any chat, ask what is still open, and tell it what you finished. It takes a minute to set up.
What a connector does
A connector lets Claude use another service's tools while you chat. For a to do list that means Claude can read your todos, add new ones, change them, and check them off. You sign in once. After that, Claude can reach the list in any conversation, and you can remove the connection whenever you like.
The list itself does not change. It stays a simple list that your agent adds to, and you still decide what is done.
Connect Claude in a minute
- In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
- Press the + button and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it Very Simple Todo and paste
https://verysimpletodo.com/mcp. Press Add. - Press Connect and sign in with Apple or Google, the same account you use in the app.
- Try it: "what is on my to do list?"
It works in Claude on the web, on desktop and on your phone. The free Claude plan allows one custom connector, and paid plans allow more.
Example requests
"Add call the dentist and buy a present for Maja's party."
- Call the dentist
- Buy present for Maja's party
"Star the dentist one, and put the clinic's number in the note: 08 123 45 67."
The dentist todo gets a star, and the number goes in the note under it.
"What is still open?"
Claude reads the open list back to you, starred todos first.
"I bought the present."
Claude checks off that todo. It leaves the open list and shows up under the done filter in the app.
"I added the dentist twice by mistake. Delete the duplicate."
Claude deletes the extra one, because you asked.
What Claude can do
- List your todos: open, done, or all.
- Read one todo, including the note under it.
- Add a todo with a title and, if you want, a note.
- Edit a todo: the title, the note, or the star.
- Check a todo off, or reopen one you checked off by mistake.
- Delete a todo, when you ask for it.
Adding and editing need an active subscription. Reading, checking off and deleting keep working without one, so your list is never locked.
What Claude cannot do
- Remind you. A simple to do list app like this sends no notifications, and Claude does not ping you on its own. It mentions open todos when you talk to it.
- Schedule things. There are no due dates or calendar on the list.
- Share the list. The list is yours; there is no sharing with other people.
- See anything else. The connection reaches your todos and nothing more.
When it helps most
The best moments are the ones where you would otherwise lose the thought. You are planning a trip with Claude and realise you need to renew a passport. You are drafting an email and remember the invoice. You are asking for a recipe and notice you are out of rice. Instead of switching apps, you finish the sentence with "and put that on my list". Being able to add to your to do list from Claude in the middle of something else is the whole point. The list on your phone is already up to date the next time you look.
Rules worth telling Claude once
Claude follows instructions well. Say these at the start of a chat, or keep them in your preferences:
- Keep todo titles short, one line. Details go in the note.
- Check off only what I say is done. Never guess.
- Delete only when I ask. A finished todo is checked off.
- List the open todos before adding, so you do not add a duplicate.
- Star only what I call urgent.
In Claude Code
If you work in Claude Code, add the list from the terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http very-simple-todo https://verysimpletodo.com/mcp
Then run /mcp inside Claude Code and sign in when the browser opens.
Revoking access
You can cut Claude off at any time. In the app, open Account; every connected app and token is listed there. Revoke the Claude connection and it stops working immediately. You can also remove the connector in Claude under Customize, Connectors. Your todos stay exactly as they are.
Where to go from here
Very Simple Todo is a simple to do list app built for this: one row to add, a checkbox, a star, a note under any row and a home-screen widget, with no reminders or due dates. Claude connects in a minute. It costs $0.99 a month, and the first month is free. The list is hosted in Amsterdam, EU, and is never used to train AI models.
